Haddington,Here We Come!

The Merry Widows and I packed our little pretend rucksacks and with bus passes to hand rode on the speedy X7 bus to Haddington, unknowing that not only was it a Monday but it was a Scottish Bank Holiday and a local holiday. Still, although most of the cafés were shut and we never even found the Pancake Place, we sought sanctuary in the Waterside Bistro which appeared to open especially to give us coffee; the sight of three elderly matrons on the patron’s doorstep and his resistance dissolved especially as we booked a table for lunch at 1pm.

The day was glorious and our team leader was keen for us to walk past the golf course to gain access to a riverside walk to Amisfield Walled Garden on the outskirts of the town. It turned out to be a walk too far for this trio determined not to miss their lunch slot and after a slow but determined walk to the golf course at the side of a main road, we turned back to sit in the sun beside St Mary’s Church and blether which is what we do best.

A leisurely lunch was enjoyed in lovely surroundings back at the Waterside beside the River Tyne. Not an energetic day but probably all the  more enjoyable for that.

A fast ride back via the motorway in the returning X7 and home to a pulsating Edinburgh where the sun decided to slip behind clouds as I put my key in the lock.
