The blackening

Another departure from the daily challenge, but I took this one in Kirkwall today and just loved it so much I had to blip it.

The young lady being carried is a bride, shortly to be married. In the lead up to her marriage she has been abducted by a group of her friends, tied to the market cross outside the cathedral and covered in molasses and various other substances. She is being carried to a flat bed truck decorated with balloons before being driven around the town to the accompaniment of shouts, screams and whistles.

The groom was being blackened at the same time.
