Elba Monument
Lots of driving today to get back from Cambridge to Edinburgh. I didn't hang around for the punting. After a little rest in the Lakes, I found a quick geocache to begin my journey further up North. Here is the Elba monument. The monument was erected in 1814 by James Bateman of Tolson Hall. It was designed to glorify the imprisonment of the Emperor Napoleon, but he escaped before the memorial’s plaque was in place.
