Incident

Sunday 31st July 2022

It was a usual Sunday morning. I then returned for a wedding rehearsal and left about 4pm. I managed to fall asleep at home before I got round to doing anything else. It was the phone that woke me at 7pm to ask me about the incident in the village. I was oblivious to all that had gone on.

There was a big cricket game going on on the field behind our church, accessed by a road between us and the local pub (the white building). The pub also has a beer garden behind and there was a party going on. About 4.20pm someone walked into the beer garden and, in a targeted attack, shot a man in the leg. The cricket match was stopped for the air ambulance to land in the field, armed police descended on the village, the road through the centre was all cordoned off, no-one was allowed off the field for an hour.

When I went down later the cordon had been reduced to just around the pub and only three vans and SOCO were left there ... and the police car parked in the Vicar's spot.
