Headset

This headset with a boom mike is great for operating the radio, and with VOX (voice operated transmit) set just right it's completely hands free so I can tinker with the radio and write logs rather than holding a hand microphone.  

My main radio has two receivers, which can be used simultaneously (one in each ear) so I can tinker different setups to make the best of weak signals and make a direct comparison between them.  You can even configure the two receivers to use different antenna and see which one gives the best signal.  That can produce some weird phase effects between the two signals, but never fear, the headset has a phase reverse switch if needed. Dual receive is also handy for some types of split operation when the station you want to call is working a pileup and you want to hear both them and the stations you're competing with!

Not had a lot of time for radio lately, but I did work in half a dozen contacts last night and another few in a brief session today.

Today was mostly about getting things ready for next weeks plans...
