Round and About in York
Last night Elaine and I decided to go to York .
I booked tickets online to go to the art gallery then phoned Little Italy to reserve a table for 3pm.
We wanted to see William Ismay’s collection of ceramics.
Ismay was a librarian in Wakefield and was an avid collector of ceramics.
His little terrace house in Wakefield was filled with 3, 600 pieces from over 500 potters.
It must have been one of the largest private collections in the country.
A little film showed how they had been displayed throughout his home.
Every wall and surface displayed them.
On his death he left instructions that the whole collection should be donated to York Art Gallery.
I was so engrossed and interested that l forgot to take any photographs but l did take a quick couple of shots of this instillation.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Sauntered past the Minster to the restaurant where we really enjoyed our food, both pasta related.
Then we finished with an Affagato, perfect- as the weather was quite humid with occasional drizzle.
We had been fortunate to be sat at a table with an open window, good for the fresh air and for looking down at the street below to do some people watching.
