Missing

Something’s missing. While we were away in Munich the swifts have upped sticks and gone, the whole gang of them, which is a real bummer because it made my day to hear them and watch them zipping about. In their place we have wasps, far less welcome. Maybe the swifts were keeping their numbers down or else they were in hiding but suddenly they’re out in force. But happily there are lots of storks in town so that balances things out a bit. We counted 14 sitting on the church roof tonight. There’ll be 14 long, white streaks down that red roof tomorrow!
