A day off, off (Day 2640)

A different sort of a day for me. After taking Sigyn a wander and getting myself organised and suitably full of coffee. I got the bike out of the garage and zoomed off to catch the ferry south.
Off the boat I made for Wick and hung around wasting a bit of time before the eye test which necessitated my trip off. It took all of 15 minutes, and with near enough five hours to kill before the ferry home it seemed only right to have a bit of a trundle on the bike.
From Wick I headed to John o' Groats and stopped briefly for the obligatory pic of the bike near the sign. From there I headed west, along the north coast. It is a fine bit of road, but the advent of the North Coast 500 tourist route has had a huge impact on the road surface and the edges of the road. Too many camper vans squeezing past each other have totally broken up the road edges for miles on end. Despite all the signs which encourage drivers to allow other vehicles to overtake, I was stuck behind 25mph camper vans far too often. Perhaps signs encouraging people to use their mirrors will be the next bits of street furniture.
All that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed my ride, turning around after I stopped to take this pic a couple of miles west of Tongue. I was lucky on the run back to catch the ferry and didn't get stuck behind anyone. I had almost forgotten how much I love riding the bike, near enough 200 miles has given me a good reminder. Maybe I should encourage my beautiful wife to join me for a similar trip on T-rex some day...
