Gatwick

Avenue Verte, Day Two: Horley to Groombridge

We started the day by cycling round the outer reaches of Gatwick Airport, which was interesting, and then spent a little longer than we should have negotiating Crawley (there was a particularly scary footbridge over a motorway) before finally getting back on track. Luckily there was a stop for coffee and cake at Crawley Down and then a lot of downhill freewheeling along the Worth and then Forest Trails. When we got to our B&B at Groombridge (the Sixteenth Century Crown Inn, picturesque but somewhat creaky) we sat out in the sun and ate a large and inappropriate roast dinner. Later on we went for a wander, ate an ice cream by the cricket pitch, haunted the churchyard, caught up on the other French cycling event and spent the evening sat outside the pub…
