Wetlands

We went haring off to Mt. Compass this morning. There is a very well known strawberry farm there, that grows the BEST strawberries you ever tasted. It's getting right towards the end of the season and it's about our last chance to get some trays of seconds to freeze down for winter.

They are building a new Wetlands area and I thought it might make a good blip. It was blowing an absolute gale, so no birds, and this is the best of a mediocre bunch. However, give it about a year, and I reckon it will be lovely.

Go for a swim

We also went to an Open Garden this afternoon, but the sky had gloomed over and I didn't see anything much to inspire me.

Here's the info about Mt. Compass, just in case you ever visit down our way.

Mount Compass is a town in the Fleurieu Peninsula, on the A13 south of Adelaide, and north of Victor Harbor. It is a small community, traditionally supported by farming. Both market gardens and dairy have proved lucrative in the area. At the 2006 census, Mount Compass had a population of 695.

The name is said to have come from the 1840's, when Governor Gawler supposedly lost his compass near the site. (I always had this daydream that one day I'd be climbing the Mount, and I'd find the remains of the compass).

Since 1973, Mount Compass has hosted the country's only Cow Race, the Compass Cup. Originally conceived as a way to bring together the surrounding communities by the late Marcy Stewart, it has become a regional institution that attracts thousands of visits to the town over the weekend.
