Today I met with some contractors to discuss overhauling our master bathroom. The bathroom was renovated about 6 years ago by the previous owners but it's never been great. The bathroom is very traditional and in keeping with the house (built 1904), there's a cast iron claw footed bathtub and the shower is over the tub. This tub, traditional and beautiful as it is, has been the biggest stumbling point with the bathroom, quite literally, as we have both fallen and slipped several times climbing in and out of the shower. It's time for a rethink. We have a lot of space to play with which is great.

The Historical listing of the neighborhood has raised its head already in these early proceedings, just a simple discussion about a window - if we put a tub under it the window would have to be brought up to code, new glass, etc., which would trigger a design review, in all likelihood.

In this photograph you can see honeycomb tile flooring, which was not laid very well, I can see where each sheet of tile begins and ends (argh!) and then the baseboard of dubious quality which doesn't meet the floor... It's good to have a clear idea of what you don't like, I think!

Measurements made, photographs taken, it's a start.
