Most Swahili exercises in this lesson didn’t have a religious bent. Until the last two lines which talked about John baptising Yesu Kristo (Jesus Christ) and forgiveness from the Almighty God.

How we laughed. Well, I chuckled at the random inclusion. For Yusuf it was entirely normal that education and religion go hand in hand. This is his norm, whereas for me, most lessons during my school life didn’t contain religious references.
