Bluedot / Day 2: Public Service Broadcasting

This was a very good news day for a couple of reasons. The first concerns my friend, Steve, who was finally vindicated with respect to a horrible and wholly unnecessary situation, but that’s not my story to tell. The second bit of good news, I’ll come to in a moment.

There are those who might sneer at ‘glamping’ but there’s no other way that I would attend a festival. Our tent is fab, and so heavily lined that the sunlight doesn’t get through. We had a great night’s sleep. And then I enjoyed the decent loos and a hot shower before we ventured out into the festival.

I love Bluedot; the mix of science and (mostly) electronic music might have been designed for me. So we went to a couple of talks, and then later on, as we were going back into the main site to see some music, we were seduced by Andrew O’Neill’s talk and performance of ‘A History Of Heavy Metal’.

But the other bit of Very Good News, was that Spiritualized, whom I’d been planning to see, couldn’t perform after all due to Covid. (That’s not the good news.) But their replacement was my much loved Public Service Broadcasting. So there we were - the Minx and I - at eleven o’clock, right at the front, to enjoy one of the best performances I’ve ever seen them give. I suspect the fact it was short notice and that they can’t have been fully rehearsed added an edge to the whole endeavour. But whatever the reason, it was bloody fantastic!
