A New Day

Lady the Osprey

The weather has thrown a bit of everything at us today, including hailstones! Our poor gardens!! When the sun came back for a bit this afternoon, we decided to take a drive over to Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld to take another look at the ospreys nesting there.

We were lucky enough to see Lady (the famous elderly osprey) return to the nest and relieve Laddie, her much younger consort, from incubating duties. The change-over was very quick, so as to protect their three eggs from the cold weather, so I was lucky to get this hastily taken shot before she settled down and was invisible from the hide. You might see her better in Large!

As if that wasn't excitement enough for one day, we then spotted a pair of Great Crested Grebes doing their incredible courtship ritual, where they mimic each other's actions. Never seen it before for real, so we were thrilled!

A great afternoon out!
