A Day In The Life

Humming Along

A treat for the eyes today watching this female hummingbird visit the bee balm. She methodically visited each of the frilly red flowers, even those flat on the ground, before rocketing herself into the trees • Another hot day; another dry day; another busy day • I didn’t see mothman but two monarchs visited the butterfly bed. Sadly, these lovely creatures were recently added to the endangered species list. Their numbers continue to decline every year, with the most dramatic drop this past year. Some of it is due to climate change, the cutting of fir trees they winter in is another, but the biggest reason is the commercial and residential use of the toxic chemical Round-Up. Since 1974 it’s been used to kill weeds, and milkweed is a weed. Without it, monarch’s cannot survive • All of us can help these butterflies fight back. Make a positive difference and plant some milkweed plants in your yard. Stop using Round-Up too! It will also benefit our precious bees! • Peace & Love!
