Cutting back

Our power came back on at 4.15 this morning and promptly triggered the burglar alarm. So, after sorting that out, it was light and not that easy to get back to sleep. We were in the group of houses served by the generators that UK Power brought to the scene but there are still six houses further along from us that couldn't  be connected and they have been without power all day. In the meantime UK Power have brought in tree surgeons to cut back the trees whose top branches were snagging the overhead power cables and catching fire yesterday. We assume there will be a planned cut when they switch us back to mains supply but that will be only 10 minutes or so, or so we're told. Apparently the original outage, taking out a whole host of properties, was caused by a bird strike on a cable about half a mile away. The guilty avian party was a crow.
