Part 1 - Interlock
Interlock
Hapless, hopeless, extraordinary and defining. Not really how Sydney has thought his life may develop, but that’s what a murder or two can do.
Some say wrong place, wrong time, but as Sydney had thought it through over and over again, he had come to reckon that it was quite the opposite. Up to ‘that’ moment, he was going backwards at a speed fit for a formula 1 racing car. Then his luck changed. Saving the accidental widow from following her husband to the clutches of a gang land trap was as easy as flicking the top off a hard boiled egg. All it took was his swift reflex, and there she was, safe in his arms, whilst her betrothed became unbetrothed underneath a Ford people carrier.
She was extremely grateful and whilst Sydney wanted no reward, the £3M gift has been beyond generous and very life affirming.
He’d waited a few months, more than half expecting the long arm of the bad people to come and wring his size 15 neck, but no such strangulation had occurred.
Now, armed with a new book by Richard Coles and refreshed by a frozen strawberry Daiquiri, Sydney sat in front of a view of the Aegean and thanked his lucky stars.
