The power of passing on knowledge and skills

The theme for MonoMonday is Power, and I thought of the power of passing on knowledge and skills from one generation to the next. G's dad built many houses and was a craftsman. G worked with him from an early age, and although he would rather have played with friends or done other fun activities sometimes, he really appreciates how much he learned from his dad. I appreciate how much he learned too! He's built us two houses, a log house and the one we live in now, and did most of the work himself, getting help only when he needed it. He's very skilled and can do almost anything in construction - or maybe he can do anything! He was mixing cement to make a small pad for the generator, and that got me thinking of how much he's done in our lives together that demonstrate how much he learned.
He worked as a teacher and administrator, which required a whole different skill set!
I walked by the pot of thyme this morning and noticed that the baby juncos have fledged! I'm disappointed that I didn't see them or get a recent photo of them in the nest. We did peek a couple of days ago and saw them. There was an egg left in the nest that looked like a wee chick had started to hatch. I've included a couple of photos of it as extras. I won't have to tiptoe around the thyme now!
