What lies beneath

I flopped down next to the pond today intending to take some photos of the dragonflies.  Suddenly, at eye level, this was visible underneath a lilly pad leaf.

I believe it's a dragonfly nymph!  I watched for about an hour but there was no movement.  The dragonfly may already have emerged.  The lifecycle is fascinating.

Here in the UK we are bracing ourselves for record breaking high temperatures tomorrow.  An 'extreme heat' warning has been issued for the next two days.  Yikes!
