Up North.....!!
Well not quite as far as Northern Ireland but Ardee Co. Louth...
Myself and hubby took ourselves off on a wee ‘skite’ yesterday..it was a very pleasant day out...we can’t really be away too long because of Mel but these short trips suit us fine...!
The bridge is the suspension bridge over the river Boyne and called after our second female President Mary McAleese...it is an impressive structure to view at a distance and to drive over....,!
Ardee is a small little town but has everything for daily needs ...we had coffee and cake in a lovely little tea shop and I bought a new tablecloth (round) in wipeable oilcloth ..not an easy thing to get...so that was nice..it’s very pretty with huge red poppies & daisies...! And as we say here in Ireland the ‘natives ‘ were very friendly....the lady who owned the shop was ‘all talk’. ..we were there a long time ..she was so interested to hear where we were from..and when she heard Kildare ..she regaled us with many stories about a St. Brigids Well in their locality and hadn’t we one too...stories about all the miracles and cures....I think my hubby enjoyed ‘winding her up’......
The other photos are one of the lovely flower planters in the town and Ardee Castle which isn’t in great shape but had planning permission on it for hopefully renovation...
Amazing history ...even William of Orange stayed before the Battle of the Boyne..!!
