Abscission rules! O.K?

Function
"A plant will abscise a part: either to discard a member that is no longer necessary, such as a leaf during autumn, or a flower following fertilisation, or for the purposes of reproduction. Most deciduous plants drop their leaves by abscission before winter, while evergreen plants continuously abscise their leaves."

I dimly recall this from "O level" biol, about 50yrs ago.

It's never happened before, (Since we bought it a few years ago) in spite of this lot not being the first crop of new leaves.
I wondered, when we bought it, why it had a couple of green stumps with those thin, straw-like bits still attached.
NOW I know.
