Sailing School
Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
~Christopher Cross (Lyrics from "Sailing")
As KettwigeFrau reported, we had a lunch meeting today at the Düsseldorf Yacht Club. Alas, there were no yachts in the rather dull harbor and the sun had not even come out yet - so no blips.
But by early evening it was a beautiful, sunny 23 degrees and when I dropped my daughter off for Lacrosse, conditions were ripe for a good run around the Baldeneysee. I managed 8km in exactly one hour - my best time in ages. It felt great! And had I not been terribly dehydrated, I could have done even better :)
I stopped briefly along the route for a couple shots of the many little boats out doing sailing school exercises. It was fun to watch them deliberately capsize and right their skiffs and practice man-overboard maneuvers. A bit hard to believe it's been nearly 30 years since I went through that with my family's sunfish on Lake Mahopac in New York. Back then we also owned a Catalina 25 we sailed on the Hudson River. I do love and miss the days of sailing, so free and exhilarating on the water...
It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
