Out and about
It's the end of the week, and G got caught out as she thought it was Thursday! We were home through the morning, busy working and then ventured out in the afternoon. It's been hot today - in the mid-40s, I reckon. Not surprising if Spain and parts of France are reporting the same!
We went for a drive, choosing free-flowing roads to avoid end-of-the-week commuter traffic. The E66, E77 and E44 were our roads, except we turned onto the D50 to drive through Aweer - an area dedicated to farming and food security. I could see the colour of the dunes was darker as if it had rained. Then we saw the puddles. I think they'd had a deluge, and we missed it!
We turned left to an unnamed (and unmarked) road and saw things we'd not seen before. Lots of huge "homes", big boundary walls - some of them with lights, We saw a sign advertising "Whispering Ranch Coffee Shop 800m". This kind of sign might be commonplace in Europe but is never seen here. We decided to check it out but didn't find the shop. We saw this date plantation which G stepped out of the car to photograph. We drove a little bit further and came upon what looked like a military installation (also unmarked with a low GPS signal), so duly turned around to wend our way back. I had no idea where we were until we drove to a junction I recognised. The Last Exit D89 was in the vicinity, so we drove past that as we made our way home. G spotted a recycling centre, so we used it and checked out Quranic Park nearby. It is something to explore in the winter.
Back home, we wanted to do something "French" for Bastille Day, so the DVD of Julie & Julia went into the player. What a great movie!
