POPPIES ON FLOWER FRIDAY
We collected our new car today - and what a good experience it was. Ben, the salesman at our local Honda garage was amazing and even when I asked a couple of silly questions, answered them without making me feel stupid! I had made sure, after a card payment was rejected a few months ago, that I rang the card company first thing this morning, so that they were aware that it was a legitimate payment and that there was no fraud involved. We realise they are “on our side” but it would have been very embarrassing if we had gone to collect the car and the payment had been refused!
Anyway, once the paperwork was done, we decided to go down the M4 motorway as far as Hungerford, where we were looking forward to having a cup of coffee and a scrumptious cake in a little café there, so imagine our disappointment when we found that it was closed because it is being refurbished. Dobbies Garden Centre is just over the road, so we went there instead and had a toasted sandwich and a coffee, but will go back to the other place in a couple of weeks to see if the refurb is finished.
By then it was very hot so instead of just driving around, we decided to come back home. Mr. HCB’s back and my neck were also beginning to ache, and we hadn’t brought any tablets, so it seemed the best thing to do.
On the way home, I remembered that last year we had seen quite a lot of poppies in this particular corn field at Liddington Warren, so we pulled off and wandered along the path until we found some. There was quite a breeze, as you can see by my hair in the selfie, but it was a cooling breeze, so very pleasant especially in the hot sun. However, I decided against using the extra photograph as my contribution for Derelict Sunday - but it’s not often you see a pair of Calvin Kleins on a farm track!
“A light wind swept over the corn,
and all nature laughed in the sunshine.”
