Top of the Bass Rock

Sun was out, spring is really showing, everything is looking good. Had to go to Kirkcaldy today and noticed these tankers from the (rather disappointing) Esplanade. I was amazed to see the Bass Rock looking so diminutive. All about the horizon of course. I had to look it up. If you happen to be 5'7" you can apparently see 2.9 miles. The Bass Rock is about 17 miles form Kirkcaldy so nearly half of it is below the horizon. No wonder our ancestors didn't want to travel too far, the guys from Kirkcaldy must have thought they would fall off the world near the Bass Rock.
