Luminescent ladies

Today we were recovering from our long walk yesterday although we did cycle  to ukulele class and made  a brief visit to Winchester city centre to visit a few shops
This evening, we went out with some friends, again looking for glow worms, spurred on by our success last Sunday night. Tonight, we were very excited to find  seventeen glowing females on Whiteshute Ridge, a grassy chalk ridge close to lots of houses, and popular with dog walkers.
We found most of them in different locations from last time so we know have  found at least 23 individuals over the two nights. We recorded their locations, this time, using the what3words app. We think we may go out again one night next week.
Here is a photo of one of the glowing ladies. Only the last two or three segments of her  abdomen glow (exhibit bioluminescence), and that ceases once  a male has found  her, and they have mated. The glow worm  larvae eat snails, but once in the  adult phase they can no longer eat, so their  life is soon over.
