MS Vesterålen

For the 3rd time in less than two weeks I got on an overnight ferry, this time the famous Hurtigruten from Bergen to Ålesund.

The original Hurtigruten or "Norwegian Coastal Express" is an 11 day voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes (near the Russian border) and back again. It began in the 1893. There are 11 ships, and therefore 1 passes in each direction every day.

As well as cruise tourists on-board for the whole/half the tour, the boats also act as a ferry (like we used it), and a vital supply ship to remote coastal communities
