Another day, another 300k

We don’t drive too far if possible each day and find 300km about right. My back gets fussy about 250km so I’m always pleased to arrive. Today we crossed various mountain ranges roughly in line with the Tropic of Capricorn. Even though we have been in the tropics we have had frosts, with ice on our windows, the last three days. Now we are close to the coast between Rockhampton and Gladstone in Queensland. Last year we found this farm/ caravan park and loved it so have returned for a couple of nights. The owners have fenced off a few acres, put in water and lawns and some places to park. Last time we were here I had a ride on Comanche, an Appaloosa horse. I wondered if that hurt my back but Bob thinks it was the heavy gardening I had been doing.

There are only 3 vans here and we overlook a nice little water course. Bliss.

The drive here today was through coal country with huge coal trains and power stations, not very pretty. It is much more established with cities and towns dotted along the highway. We will hug the coast down towards Newcastle where we turn inland for home next week. We are both a bit over sightseeing so will be pleased to have some time catching up with family including two of Bob’s sisters and two of his brothers, he comes from a family of 7. We see the distant ones more than the ones living in Sydney.
