Millennium Bridge, Castleford West Yorkshire

Quite cool to start the day just right for walking the dogs, then...

What an afternoon, where to start. Paula had booked at Halfords in Castleford to have 4 new tyres fitted.  appointment 1.30pm "it will take about an hour" they said "please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment". We duly complied and left the car, "we will ring when it's ready" they said. Well we couldn't go home because the busses were on strike today, but just over the road was a nice park to sit in, with the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat on. We decided to walk to the Millennium Bridge, through the streets. By now it was pretty hot  It was cooler on the bridge with the water coming over the weir.

Hence the pics. I love the way the birds sit on the weir in the water. If you look at the bottom right pic you can see a green mass growing out of a boat that has been there since heavens knows when. I've lived in Kippax 51 years and it's been there since before then, well and truly stuck, they didn't even try to remove it when they built the bridge. The birds on the right are Rock Doves they wait for people to throw them food.
Allinsons Flour Mill used to be just at the side but it is now Castleford Stoneground Flour Mill you can buy the flour from there. They have open days too when you can have a guided tour round the mill, I got a private one when I went for some flour one day,  plus I also got to try some very nice malt loaf that the chap had just baked and a recipe on how to make it.
It was a lovely walk, so we headed back to the park still no phone call. we then walked over this huge rugby field and found another hidden garden but we decided to explore that on another day. Back we went to the first garden then as it was now nearly 3pm we went over to the garage to see if the tyres had been fitted yet.
Ah said the guy "I was just going to ring you", (they always are aren't they) "they only sent one tyre so we are waiting for them to bring the other 3" (they were special ones she wanted) "He'll be here in the next half hour, do you want to wait or come back" well busses on strike we opted for waiting. Anyhow he did arrive not long after and so they got them on and we left about ten to 4.  So much for an hours wait. That was  my afternoon, we had a coffee and I fell asleep woke up just before 6, all that fresh air and walking, plus the heat.
