Munich Day 4

Our last day. Only 15k steps.

The upside of our return flight being cancelled and having to take a later one was that we got to spend an extra day with daughter#2 :-)

We decided to take a bus tour in the morning to get a better picture of Munich as a city, and see some of the sights we hadn't managed to fit in.

It was a good idea, although the audio commentary was a bit sparse and sometimes out of sync with the bus progress. I think the first extra is the Glyptothek, a sculpture museum.

We only had time to do the short city tour but it was good to drive past places we had visited, such as the Englischer Garten and the Deutsches Museum to get a better understanding of where they were in relation to each other and the rest of the city. When you travel on the U-Bahn you don't really get any understanding of where you are. I should mention here the special offer 9 euro tickets which we bought on the S-Bahn at the airport which have been valid on all the public transport we have used during the visit. They haven't been checked at all either.

After the tour we strolled past the Stachus fountain (second extra) complete with a very dapper busker (main blip). We found a really nice restaurant with an internal courtyard for our final lunch. I even managed to get a close equivalent to a Sunday lunch (third extra), no Yorkshire pudding on the menu though.

We then went back to the apartment in time to see our prospective son-in-law off on his travels, back to Weinheim and Heidelberg. Talking of dapper dressers, he had his Luftwaffe uniform on and looked very much the part - he gets free train travel when he is wearing it.

By the way, to conclude the hotel saga, I complained in the morning when checking out about the poor housekeeping service and got 96 euros knocked off the bill, which was a good result!
