South Norwood Lake: Messy Eater?

I drove Im to work, so visited South Norwood Lake en route home to see whether the great crested grebes had grebelings... No joy on that front, but I did see mallardlings, cootlings, and 'tweeny Canada geese on the water, and found a great tit family (two threadbare parents and three or four very healthy-looking fledglings) foraging along the lake's edge.
