Dog walk
There are occasional reminders that, even though it’s now cared for by the woodland trust, it used to be the grounds of a vast Victorian asylum.
Built in 1860 it grew to hold 3,000 patients at one point. ‘Care in the community’ in the 1980s/ 1990s saw its closure & demolition.
Beautiful old Victorian buildings, that would have made stunning apartments, became faceless ‘executive homes’. Aka bland boxes.
