Labouring

Another sweltering day!
Up and got the garden watered before the full heat of the day hit, then our plans for the various jobs we had were messed up by the later opening of various shops and garden centres but we had breakfast at a Greggs whilst we planned out what to do.
Picked up the plants P wanted, and a card etc for Z, A’s friend who’d been visiting P last week for us. We stopped at her house to see her and met a lot of her family who were in the midst of celebrating Eid. Lovely chat with them all and of course we needed to be given breakfast…delicious chickpea curry and semolina with chapatis, and to be teased by her Dad. Amidst insistence we return later for dinner, or at least another time, we left and got to P’s at midday. He then instructed us on where he wanted the new plants (perfect to be digging holes in hard stony soil at that time on the hottest day of the year so far!), and then we went through his meds with him and some paperwork he’s been worrying about. No big issues but obviously things he’s had weighing on his mind, so it was good to work through them with him and know I can just sort them out in a few minutes online. Explained when the carers will be coming in, starting tomorrow, and then set him up with a drink and his iPad in time for the tennis men’s final.
Back to T&Kt’s to water the garden a final time and let Paisley play for a while, and for A to have a quick cold shower, before packing the car and heading to the allotment to water it. Lugging watering cans backwards and forwards for half an hour will have given us some good exercise, good to see how things were coming on and harvested a few baby courgettes and some rhubarb for our reward.
Hit the road and A started the driving whilst I dozed and listened to Name of the Rose again, then we swapped at Durham when we stopped for some food and collected the cat from MH’s about 9.30. Worst bit is always staggering up two flights of stairs with all the accumulated stuff when we get home, but we were settled in with a cup of tea by 10pm for an hour of relaxation before bed. Phew, what a busy weekend….
