St Andrew-the-Less, 1190.

Following on from yesterday's entry, the Abbey Church, as it is known, was part of the Augustine Barnwell Priory. This and the Cellarers Checker are all that was left after the Priory was destroyed, and much of the materials were taken away for use by the colleges and local gentry. The Cromwells took a gilded ceiling that can still be seen in Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon. It is a small church with just a nave and chancel, sadly neglected and disused for a long time. The congregation joined up with Christ's Church nearby, but Abbey Church is now being used again by the Polish community. I had to take this shot through the gate as the place was locked up, and there were high hedges around the building.
