Two explorations

First, thanks to everyone who helped to put yesterdays 8 year blip anniversery shot into second place on the top line of page 1 of popular. I never expected that.
Perfect weather again today. Blue sky, 21 degrees and a finy breeze.
We had two good walks.
The first over Glasson Moss. This is a large area of raised mire or peat bog. Over the country much of this very special landscape has been lost, much of it to peat extraction for fuel and for horticulture. Several areas near the south Solway coast are among the best ones remaining. Much work has been done to restore them
They have a special natural history including Sundew, Bog Rosemary, Bog Asphodel ( see extra)  and Cotton Grass. There are also  many Dragonflies (as above) and occasionally Adders canuc be seen.
Our second walk was into a National Nature Reserve called Finglandrigg Wood. A mixture of woodland, peat bog, heathland and rough pasture. There are Red Squirrels, Deer, 40 species of birds and Marsh fritillary butterflies. It was a good walk but we were not too lucky in our sightings.
Another enjoyable day.
