Ashes To Ashes
This is a special place in a private wood. Today, the Mate's family and I went to scatter his ashes. They almost got scattered prematurely as I tripped over a fallen branch.
This forest had changed so much with fallen trees and logging. We were lucky that we soon came across a dog walker who knew the woodland well and led us from one pond to another until I decided this was the right one. Even so, it was difficult, the landscape had changed, trees had fallen or been felled and pine needles had covered what was once a bare sandstone "seat". It seemed unreal.
Anyhow, this was another step toward closure. His ashes are floating in the air to join others I have accompanied him to scatter: his wife's, his mother's, his father's and his best dog ever, Ash's.
This is where he wanted to be left. RIP
