why did the robin cross the road?

in this case, why did the robin cross the path?
Clearly we were coming, but we weren't enough of a threat to flee with speed. Fledgling?

My extra is also mildly silly. I cut down a struggling, terrible-looking aucuba thinking that at the bottom were new shoots. In reality, at the bottom was still more vinca. Guess what is there now!

There is a nursery of native plants in Ellicott City, MD. I needed a new maidenhair fern and new heuchera to replace those who didn't make it and decided to try out this nursery.

You ever get the sense that your navigation program is playing with your head?
No?
Uh.
Me either.....

The rabbit ate my heucheras. The purple ones grew back and lived and they have flower stalks making bees, or at least one bee, very happy. The peppermint ones did not, but they also had worse soil and intense shade from the bleeding heart. So why am I trying again?
- the heucheras will have more time to grow and get big and strong before winter and next spring's bleeding heart
- I'm not sure that the rabbit will be a problem.
I think, maybe, uh, maybe...
I think the rabbit, uh, went to live on a farm....in the countryside....

My neighbor and I haven't seen the rabbit for quite a while now.

While there I also bought a monarda didyma and some goldenrod and we'll see if we get some butterflies in front.

The first cohort of Ukrainian soldiers taking part in a UK-led training effort arrived. As many as 10,000 soldiers will take part over the next few months. The idea is to give recruits with little to no military experience the skills to be effective.

More Russian men are looking to avoid military service. Some are leaving the country. Some are seeking advice on exemptions. Some are ignoring summons, hoping Russian bureaucracy is too incompetent to get them.

In May, Putin signed a law that removed the upper age limit of 40 for people wanting to enlist.

A helicopter and airplane belonging to an ally of Putin's, Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk, have been seized and handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The UK's Ministry of Defence said that as Russia assembles reinforcements near Ukraine, troops are being placed in ad hoc groupings and equipped with obsolete or inappropriate gear. It also said that Russia has lost a large nume of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)s in Ukraine ad has a shortage. The UK ministry said Ukrainian forces continue to disrupt Russian command and control with successful strikes behind Russian lines and that the Russian military is accepting a level of degraded combat effectiveness that is unsustainable in the long term. Russia's disastrous performance is probably devastating for Russia's arms industry.

Ukraine said it destroyed 35 Russian tanks in a single day.
