The sea stack

This sea stack at Sleepy Bay was a sea arch for thousands of years, but the arch fell as a result of the 2010 earthquake. Check out an article about it.

The walk today from Stony Bay to Otanerito took us past a number of bays - the only one we dropped down into though was Sleep Bay. A lovely spot with a wee stream and a waterfall. We had a snack there and were still at the next hut in time for lunch - this being the shortest walk of the trip (6km). Some great views had along the way.
Liz and I were first to the camp again so we sussed out the bedding situation to see where we were best to put ourselves. The two rooms in the house were big enough for each of the families with us so we opted for the sleepout - the only part of the place with no power - so it was candlelight to read by again for us. This was the closest that we had stayed to the sea and it was nice to listen to the roar of the waves through the night.

A great and welcoming place to stay - and run by NZ author and walker, Fiona Farrell.
