William Earle

Born in Liverpool 1833. Died in Action commanding Her Majesty's Troops in Soudan 1885.

He could possibly have commanded Corporal Jones (Dad's Army) - They don't like it up 'em

What amazes me about this statue in Liverpool is that William Earle died in action aged FIFTY TWO! I just can't imagine fighting hand-to-hand aged FIFTY TWO.

I can understand why this statue was able to be erected through Public Subscription.
