Three Kingdoms; Fungus, Plant, Animal.
My year wouldn't be complete without a photograph of a Dryad's saddle, a gigantic polypore fungus formally known as Polyporus squamosus.
The generic name Polyporus means 'many pores' whilst the specific epithet squamosus means 'scaly'. A Dryad was a tree nymph or tree spirit in Greek mythology.
Extra. The last of the hawthorn blossom. Spot the fly!
