Piered Roundhouse

Slight improvement on the weather, still breezy, with a gale this evening.  Mostly cloudy, with the sun trying to breakout, mist in the late afternoon, and drizzle this evening.

Late shift again in the airport today.  I was working with oil and gas flights this morning, and then mostly meeting and boarding flights the rest of the day.  Our last two flights from Edinburgh and Aberdeen were delayed again.  Not much time to myself this evening, off to bed early.

I managed to get out for a walk at lunchtime, and the sun was warm when it made a brief appearance.  Exploring old ruins, and today looking at the old piered roundhouse.  In the early AD centuries, they modernised the brochs by lowering them, and here in the old roundhouse, they strengthen them using the dressed stones from the broch to create the piers jutting out, and a long pier down the middle of the building.  This was the largest house in the site, and also had an upper floor, access from the outside.  The wall at the back in the east outer wall of the broch.  Taken at Old Scatness, Sumburgh.
