RAPTOROUS
The kestrel was out and about in the old cemetery again today, keeping a watchful eye on things. Also, I discovered that the sparrowhawk nest that I thought was empty is in fact occupied by at least one fledgling. I couldn't get a better view of it than the extra, which - to aid interpretation - is of its rear end, taken from about 30 feet below while it was moving about outside the nest. It then went back into the nest without turning its head towards me, and wouldn't come out again while I was there.
It does explain why there haven't been so many small birds nesting in the vicinity this year.
