Lenticular Cloud over Piz Bernina

It hovered almost like an UFO over this highest peak in the area, when I walked back from my first destination - the Morteratsch glacier. There’s so little left of it now, compared to how I remember it, it made for a bittersweet visit. But it was a perfect walk for day one, not too much „up“ (apart from the end, when I decided on a detour to the Chünetta Belvedere), and a lot to see along the way.

I had hoped for Alpine flowers, birds and butterflies, and got to see loads. Much more than I could take photos of and include in my extra collage. The bird on top of the larch tree is a linnet, and the bright orange butterfly is called a scarce copper. I‘m not quite sure which species of rampion the blue flower is and haven’t identified the other two butterflies yet. (Edit: the bottom right one is a woodland ringlet and the one above it a large skipper.)

My timing was perfect, I went early to avoid the rain that was forecast for the afternoon, and managed to get home just when the first drops were starting to fall.

But I won’t stay in the hotel all evening. There’s a little street food market opening just now, so I will stop writing and have a look what’s on offer there.
After 16.000 steps (so far), I hope I can still move tomorrow.
