Yesterday morning, very early, I fed Midnight (then did that last bit of dead matted fur on him). It was still a bit dark, but I wanted to go back to bed for another hour's sleep. I didn't get back to sleep, but I relaxed with my heated steam mask, and my hand massager, which I am needing on my left hand at the moment. 

So I was watching the stray cats come in to feed. I still hadn't opened my own bedroom door yet into the garden. It was quite cold. First of all Midnight chased Jade away from the wet food dishes. Very unusual. She went back to them and tried to eat. But Midnight jumped off the swing, and physically drove her away. He head butted her. She was very confused. Then one of the gingers came along next. Midnight had words with him. He was going to eat his food, but Midnight said no you are not, leapt off the swing and sent him packing. This happened with a third cat. 

What is going on? I am going out there. Midnight comes to the doostep, and is very vocal. Nothing wrong physically with Midnight. And he leads me to the food bowls which are half empty, and I am saying no more food for you today, you need to slim down a bit. But he is still urgently vocal at me. 

I look at the food bowls again - covered in wasps. They are eating the wet cat food. What on earth? I get rid of the wet cat food, wash the bowls. There must have been something sweet in the wet cat food. The wasps were a bit aggressive as I was getting rid of the wet cat food.

I get some fresh cat bowls, and put several bowls of dried varieties of cat food out.  Midnight approves. He has a taste of them, gets back on the swing. And then the stray cats are coming back. They are not so pleased with the dry cat food, but they eat it. However one of the gingers has a problem, he keeps choking on the dry food and cannot swallow it easily, but he is hungry.

I am now assuming that Midnight was protecting them earlier when he drove them away from the wet cat food. A wasp sting round the mouth can probably be easily assimilated by a cat, but several wasp stings might be another matter.  He saw danger and was warning other cats. But he wasn't aggressively going for the cats.

I have not had this situation before with wasps and wet cat food. The wasps are not interested in the dry food. So, for this morning I have soaked some dry biscuits in water for the ginger cat. 

Anyway I checked the garden for wasps and inside the garage, but no nests or anything.

This early morning, there are still wasps after the wet cat food. I will leave the wet cat food until the ginger has had his.  

I did see a wasp 'clean' a piece of the meat and he flew off with it. 

Wasps and wet cat food has never been a problem before.

I have just noticed Mr&Mrs Magpie parading the middle of the road,  checking either side for food waste bins the badgers have managed to open in the night. It is recycle and food waste day.

A hot cuppa is now needed.

Ah, the ginger cat who has problems eating dry biscuits has just come along. He has the choice of wet cat food, the dry biscuits I soaked in hot water overnight, or dry cat food. Of all things he has chosen to eat the soaked in hot water all night dry biscuits over even the wet food. I am watching him eat. He needs that extra liquid to eat the food comfortably. He has completely cleared the soaked dry biscuit bowl, and left....
