ANZAC Day
Gallipoli is a name that always comes up when it's ANZAC Day. New Zealand lost 2721 good men in this Campaign.
There were many other areas and many other wars that both Australia and New Zealand were involved in and this day is to thank and remember all of our soldiers who were involved.
Anzac Day remains one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand, a rare instance of two sovereign countries not only sharing the same remembrance day, this paragraph was borrowed from Wiki.
My partner's father served in WWII and "bought a ticket home" as they used to say after being injured 3 times during his service.
He was very lucky to live as when he was serving in the Desert his Platoon was on patrol when they came across a buried German panzer which waited for them to get close and opened up with it's machine gun which killed or injured 2/3 of the platoon. He was not hit and grabbed one of his mates and was pulling him back to safety when he was struck so hard in the chest it knocked him to the ground and knocked his helmet off.
After making it to safety he had no injury and that night back in the camp he was taking his kit off and found a hole in the front pocket which had spare Bren Gun magazines, on inspection he found a hole in it and the bullets took the brunt of a piece of shrapnel.
Like many Kiwis and Australians served in many famous battles including Monte Cassino.
To all ANZACs, I say thank you very much.
