If you can't beat them...

Female Blackbird ( Turdus merula )

Very much a "snapshot blip".  I heard a noise behind me near the window.  Turning round there was a female Blackbird peeping in through the window.  The camera was just by my hand and for once had the right lens on, so three quick shots before she flew.  Two of the three were blurred by her movement.  What the fibres round her beak were I have no idea.

There are around 5,000.000 pairs in the country during the average breeding season.  They are fairly prolific breeders having two or even three clutches of 3 or 4 eggs each year.  Apart from the mountains in the north west of Scotland the Blackbird is fairly even distributed across the British Isles.
