Stumped

While out for a walk near the village of Kippen in Stirlingshire I came across this remnant of a large tree. Perhaps it had been blown over in a storm and that this was all that was left of it. In any case there was no evidence of the rest of the tree so I must assume it had been cut up and removed for more practical purposes.

It was a very pleasant walk in mixed woodland which is part of a traditional country estate- a sort of Scottish "Dowton Abbey". Sadly I cannot recall that programme's Scottish predecessor, mainly because I rarely watched it.
