Lazy Sunday afternoon, got no mind to worry!
Thank you for all your kind words about Josie yesterday, she's such fun and growing up so quickly. Crawling everywhere! Nothing in the house is safe any longer!
Today was a day of parts, for the first part I went to church. I noticed a family I didn't recognise and said hallo. Our Rector during the introduction to the service welcomed them.... they are the family from Ukraine who we have been praying for and supporting - being sponsored and accommodated by members of the congregation that another member of the congregation brought back in a minibus from the Ukraine in April. I found myself quite overwhelmed. Somehow, actually seeing them and their 3 children made me realise how easily it could have been my family. They had to leave the grandparents in Ukraine as they are unfit to travel, that could have been me!
When I spoke to them after the service, they said they are being well looked after and the children are in school, but he is unable to find work although he is constantly looking.
The next part to my day was my weekly visit to Tesco to buy some supplies for the foodbank we support in Stenhouse. A year ago they had arpund twenty families using it. Now they have over 100.
Next, it was of to Stockbridge, I wanted to go into the market. The stall I was looking for wasn't there, but I decided to join the (always long) queue for fresh paella. I bought a tub of the chicken and vegetable version to bring home for my dinner. I've often looked before and decided the queue was too long, today though my time was my own. I also bought some walnut bread and a delicious peach tart from the artisan bakery then headed up to the other end of the market to buy some noodles and dumplings from the (Japanese, I think) stall at the other end. Can't remember the name of the dumplings, but they were delicious.
My extra today is of the paella stall, both hot food stalls always have long queues. I think I waited 15-20 minutes in both.
On my way back from the market I walked along the water of Leith and found my blip for today. A few weeks ago, blipper Nadinepierce posted on her Facebook page about Hummingbird hawk moths which I had never heard of, let alone seen. Today I saw one. They really do live up to their name and my phone camera just could not cope with their speed however there is a selection above. Here is a link, with permission, of the video Nadine took. https://fb.watch/e1E-OZ9RgP/
Back home I did a little more potting up in the garden, it's hard going with my wrist though. I also phoned the gas board, at around 2.30. We have an overflow running from the heating expansion tank. I'm most impressed, they are coming out tomorrow so all will be fixed by the time we are invaded for the wedding.
All in all, a busy day, but good! Here's a link to my title song for today, a trip back to my yoof with Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane in the Small Faces before Rod Stewart arrived.
