Life through the lens...

Brassed Off.

I certainly was wasn’t Brassed off today. Just the opposite.

I came across the Brighouse March & Hymn Tune Contest by accident.
Had driven to Brighouse to have a walk along the canal, but found the town centre closed to traffic.
So parked in Sainsbury’s and had a wander into the town centre to see what was happening.
To my surprise and delight found it full of people taking part in this Brass Band Contest.
22 Brass bands in total.
People were lining the streets and round the square. Many had brought their own seats and sat all afternoon enjoying the music.
I stood next to a very knowledgeable gentleman who had retired from playing the cornet in a local band. Spent a couple of hours chatting as the bands marched past one at a time, and then stopped in the square where they played a hymn tune, followed by another march.

They all sounded good, but there was one which stood out from all the others, and that was the Hepworth Band. The band was formed in the village of Hepworth near Holmfirth, in 1882 making it one of the oldest brass bands in the country.
They are the present holders of the trophy, and judging by what we heard I think they will be winners again today.
Glad the rain held off.
What a very enjoyable afternoon.
