Underworld

This is a fascinating little spot in Callander. The eight sided watch house on the right was built at the time of the grave robbers; Burke and Hare in Edinburgh being the most notorious. Medical schools would buy cadavers, so action was necessary to protect new graves, and keep watch overnight. The practise led to the passing of the 1832 Anatomy Act, which allowed relatives to donate bodies and body parts to science.
